Hischier decided the game 1:18 minutes before the end of overtime with his second goal of the evening. The captain scored from close range at the right post with his backhand when he came down on his advance towards the goal. The 26-year-old had previously given New Jersey a 2-1 lead on the power play in the 24th minute by converting a cross-ice pass from Jack Hughes with a shot from the right faceoff circle.

It was Hischier's seventh overtime goal of his NHL career, tying him with Zach Parise for 4th place in Devils club history. The Walliser now has 15 goals for the season and leads the team's internal scoring list with 37 points from 47 games.

New Jersey, with the other Swiss players Timo Meier and Jonas Siegenthaler, celebrated their second win in a row after four consecutive defeats. The Devils will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday night and will be looking to make it three wins in a row for the first time since the end of November.
