England also disappoint in their second game at the European Championships. The Three Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark.
As in their opening game against Serbia, England failed to show their undoubted potential against Denmark. Unlike against the Eastern Europeans, where a goal from Jude Bellingham secured three points, coach Gareth Southgate's team were unable to hold on to an early lead against the Scandinavians.
Both goals were scored after carelessness. In the 18th minute, Victor Kristiansen overlooked the onrushing full-back Kyle Walker, who stole the ball off the Dane's foot. His cross found its way to Harry Kane, who had no trouble beating Kasper Schmeichel from five meters.
Kane was also at the origin of the 1:1 in the 34th minute. After a throw-in, the England captain received the ball in his own half of the pitch, where he made a hair-raising mistake. Morten Hjulmand didn't hesitate and shot from around 30 meters. His long-range shot hit the inside of the post at 114 km/h.
The star ensemble from the island came into the game a little better in the second half and, in its best phase, had chances to turn the game in the desired direction. However, Phil Foden hit the post with a shot from 20 meters and substitute Ollie Watkins missed the best opportunities from an acute angle.
At the other end, Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg had a not undeserved lucky punch for the Danes five minutes before the end. However, his shot from the edge of the box just missed the right-hand corner of the goal.
Despite two modest performances, England are top of the table with four points and are now on course for a place in the last 16. The Danes must fear for their progress after the second draw in the second game.
