At the third of six Bergkranzfests on the Rigi on Sunday, the Bernese will be competing with almost their best line-up, while the hosts from Central Switzerland will have to do without numerous top wrestlers.
In addition to wrestling king Joel Wicki and Pirmin Reichmuth, who are both taking a planned break, Marcel Bieri will also be missing on the Rigi. Bieri won the Central Switzerland Association Festival a week ago and had already won the Northwest Switzerland Festival before that, but has now had to withdraw at short notice due to a leg injury.
As a result, only three Central Swiss confederates will face a broad-based Bernese team led by Fabian Staudenmann with a dozen confederates. Favorite Staudenmann joins forces with Sven Schurtenberger, the biggest remaining trump card for the Central Swiss, in the first round. Adrian Walther will face Nick Alpiger from north-western Switzerland, Matthias Aeschbacher Lukas Döbeli and King Kilian Wenger Lukas Bissig.
At the "Fête Romande", the association festival of south-western Switzerland, in Riaz, the north-eastern Swiss guest Werner Schlegel enters the sawdust ring as the big favorite. In the first round, the St. Gallen native will be challenged by Romain Collaud from Fribourg, who, together with his association colleagues, is hoping for the first victory by a local in 16 years.
