Tanja Hüberli and Leona Kernen miss out on the final at the Elite16 tournament in Gstaad. They lose the semi-final against Latvia's Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova.

The 18:21, 22:24 defeat meant that the player from Schwyz and her young partner from Bern missed out on a premiere, namely the opportunity to become the first Swiss women's duo to reach the final of the event in the Bernese Oberland. They also failed in their attempt to take revenge for their defeat in their only previous duel with the Latvians. In April at the Elite16 tournament in Brasilia, the two Swiss women also lost in two sets.

Hüberli and Kernen have already reached two finals since joining forces this season - albeit at lower levels. In March, their first competition together in the Challenge tournament on the Mexican peninsula of Yucatan ended with a defeat against the Italians Valentina Gottardi and Claudia Scampoli. Six weeks ago, they won the Future tournament in Spiez, a third category event, thanks to a victory against the sisters Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré.

Despite the defeat, there is still a chance of reaching the first women's final with Swiss participation in Gstaad. In the second semi-final, Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré will take on the top-seeded Americans Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher.
