The newly formed Swiss beach volleyball duo Tanja Hüberli/Leona Kernen shines at the Elite16 tournament in Cancun with a victory in the round of 16 against the Olympic champions Ana Patricia/Duda.
The harmony between Tanja Hüberli and Leona Kernen was excellent right from the start. After reaching the final in their first serious match together a week ago, the pair have now impressively doubled their success in Mexico at a tournament of the highest category (Elite16).
The Olympic bronze medallist from the canton of Schwyz (with the retired Nina Brunner) and the young player from the Bernese Oberland, Kernen, made it through to the round of 16, where they pulled off a real coup. They prevailed 21:18, 21:18 against the Olympic champions Ana Patricia/Duda from Brazil. In the quarter-finals on Saturday evening, they will face the Americans Molly Shaw/Kelly Cheng, who are seeded No. 6.
