Swiss para-athletes Marcel Hug and Manuela Schär impress at the Chicago Marathon. Cathrine Debrunner comes away empty-handed.
Hug won the para-marathon in Chicago for the fourth time in a row and triumphed in the prestigious race for the sixth time in total. The man from Thurgau, who won gold in the 5000 meters at the World Para Athletics Championships at the beginning of October, secured first place in the state of Illinois with a time of 1:23:20 hours. The 39-year-old Hug did not have to worry about his victory, David Weir from Great Britain finished second, a good four minutes behind.
Manuela Schär made it onto the podium in the women's race. With a time of 1:39:03 hours, she secured 2nd place, as she did last year. The victory went to local hero Susannah Scaroni with a lead of just under 50 seconds. Catherine Debrunner finished next to the podium places. Last year's winner finished sixth, 7:27 minutes behind.
