Iouri Podladtchikov shows an encouraging performance in his second competition after his comeback. The 2014 Olympic champion takes 6th place at the Halfpipe World Cup in Calgary.
Podladtchikov, who narrowly missed out on a place in the final on his return to the World Cup in Laax in mid-January after a five-year absence, finished third in qualifying and made it through to the final with ease. There, the 36-year-old from Zurich was rewarded for his third run with 62.25 points, finishing the competition just ahead of his compatriot Pat Burgener, who came seventh with 61.25 points.
Despite the absence of Ayumu Hirano, the Japanese set the tone in western Canada. Ruka Hirano, who is not related to the 2022 Olympic champion, won with 93.00 points and thus also won the World Cup discipline ranking, while Yuto Tutsoka came second with 89.75 points.
The women's event was also won by Japan, thanks to Sena Tomita (90.75 points). The best Swiss skier, Isabelle Lötscher, missed out on the podium in fifth place by a good ten points.
The last halfpipe competition of the winter will take place at the end of March at the Freestyle World Championships in the Engadine.
