The 20-year-old from Aargau has suffered in recent days from the crash injuries he sustained in stage 1.
Before the start of the national tour, the younger of the two Christen brothers was considered the most promising Swiss candidate for the overall classification. In his crash last Sunday, he suffered abrasions to his left arm and leg and, like his team-mate João Almeida, lost a lot of time to a large leading group.
Instead of taking on a protected role in the UAE Emirates team, Jan Christen had to provide support services for the Portuguese top favorite over the course of the week.
