Strong performance, just not rewarded with the podium: Jan Christen
Keystone
Young Swiss rider Jan Christen just misses out on the podium in fourth place at the Tour of Poland. Two seconds off the podium after seven stages.
Overall victory was out of reach for Jan Christen in the final 12.5 km time trial in Wieliczka, but he missed out on his first podium in a World Tour stage race by just two seconds. The American Brandon McNulty clearly won the final 7th stage and also the overall classification with a 29-second lead over the Italian Antonio Tiberi.
With an 8th place in the time trial, the 21-year-old Christen was unable to improve his position on the final day. Just over a week ago, he had finished 2nd in the one-day classic in San Sebastian and celebrated his first podium finish on the World Tour. At the beginning of June, he had reached the podium with 3rd place in the second-class Tour of Norway.
The greatest Swiss time trial hope Stefan Küng was unable to intervene in the battle for the day's victory. The two-time European champion finished in 6th place, twenty seconds behind McNulty.
