Jason Smith is the best Swiss rider in the first main competition at the five-star CSIO in St. Gallen.
The 34-year-old native Scotsman jumped to 6th place in the "Preis Suttero" in the saddle of Picobello van't Roosakker.
It was the first competition at a five-star tournament for Smith, who was the only Swiss rider not to be knocked down. Mexican rider Carlos Hank Guerreiro took victory ahead of Germany's Sophie Heins and Austria's Katharina Homberg.
Friday's program at Gründenmoos includes the Nations Cup. Peter van der Waaij, the Swiss team manager, has nominated Nadja Peter Steiner, Steve Guerdat, Edouard Schmitz and Martin Fuchs for this event.
