The Jets were beaten by an opponent that is also one of the best teams in the league. The Hurricanes are number 3 in the East - and also in very good form at the moment. The win against Winnipeg was their fourth in a row. The decision was made at the beginning of the third period, when Canadian Logan Stankoven scored the 3-0 in overtime. Niederreiter, who has now gone ten games without a goal, remained scoreless.

The Washington Capitals have replaced the Jets as number 1 in the league standings. The team from the capital has the same number of points as Winnipeg, but has played one game less. Alex Ovechkin scored the final goal in a 4-2 win at home against the Seattle Kraken. The 39-year-old Russian scored with a shot into the empty net with a minute and a half remaining. Owetschkin's 1,600th goal was goal number 886 in regular seasons, leaving him eight goals short of Wayne Gretzky's record.

Kevin Fiala and Lian Bichsel were also among the winners of the evening. Fiala set up two goals in the Los Angeles Kings' 6-5 away win against the Vegas Golden Knights. Bichsel won 4:1 with the Dallas Stars at the Vancouver Canucks and thus decided the duel against Pius Suter in his favor.
