Jhonatan Narvaez takes his third stage win

Narvaez and Mas were the strongest riders in an original twelve-man breakaway group that broke away from the peloton early on. In the last three climbs of the stage between Tuscany and Liguria, most of the riders paid tribute to the speed of climbing specialist Mas. However, the Spaniard was unable to get rid of his last rival on the most difficult climb of the day around 20 kilometers before the finish.

As expected, the puncher Narvaez from Team Emirates was too strong for Mas in the sprint. Italian Diego Ulissi secured 3rd place, who, together with Australian Chris Harper from Swiss team Pinarello Q36.5 and Russian Alexander Vlasov, tried to catch up with the leading duo in the final kilometers. In the end, they were eleven seconds off the pace.

There were no changes at the top of the overall standings. Portuguese rider Afonso Eulalio continues to lead with a 27-second advantage over top favorite Jonas Vingegaard.

Thursday's stage will be similar to Wednesday's. It starts off flat between Imperia and Novi Ligure, before two third-category climbs towards the end of the 175 kilometers.
