Although Jason Joseph won bronze at last year's European Championships, overall things did not go as planned for him and he was never faster than 13.25 seconds. This year, the 26-year-old from Basel also beat this time in his third and fourth races over 110 m hurdles. He won the preliminary heat in Paris in 13.09 seconds and improved to 13.07 seconds in the final with a tailwind of 1.1 m/s, equaling his national best from 2023.

This was enough to put him on the podium after he had become the eighth Swiss athlete to triumph in the Diamond League in Rome two weeks earlier. Joseph was only beaten by the Americans Trey Cunningham (13.00) and Dylan Beard (13.02). He left none other than the American Olympic champion and three-time world champion Grant Holloway (5th/13.11) behind him, whom he had already beaten in the preliminary heat.

Joseph owed his sixth podium place in the Diamond League to another strong finish. "To come third in a field like this is nice," said Joseph in an interview with Swiss television. "It was good experience for what's to come." The main goal is the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
