Two Swiss players were among the scorers on the NHL's second-to-last game day before the Olympic break. Akira Schmid was the only winner with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Roman Josi also underlined his good form in the Nashville Predators' 5:6 home defeat after overtime against the Minnesota Wild. The defenseman from Bern scored the 5:5 in the 56th minute after he had set up Filip Forsberg's 1:2 (10th) on the power play. On his eleventh goal of the season, he benefited from the fact that Minnesota forward Joel Eriksson Ek deflected the puck into his own net. Josi, who was on the ice for around 31 minutes, has eight points (two goals) in the last three games, bringing his total to 39.
The game's outstanding player, however, was Minnesota's Matt Boldy, who scored the visitors' first three goals and made the pass to Jared Spurgeon 46 seconds before the end of overtime to make it 6-5. While the Wild celebrated their fifth win in a row, Nashville lost again after two victories.
Philipp Kuraschew equalized for the San Jose Sharks at the Colorado Avalanche, currently the best team in the league, in his third game after breaking his hand. The Bernese forward stole the puck from Samuel Girard in his own third, went in alone on goalie Mackenzie Blackwood and didn't let the chance slip away. It was his seventh goal of the current championship. Nevertheless, the Sharks suffered their fourth defeat in a row with a 2:4 loss.
Kings lose despite two Fiala assists
Kevin Fiala was also beaten by the Los Angeles Kings despite two assists, losing 2:4 to the Seattle Kraken. The forward from eastern Switzerland now has 40 points (18 goals), making him number 2 on the Swiss scoring list behind Nico Hischier (41).
Akira Schmid won 5-2 at home with the Vegas Golden Knights against the Vancouver Canucks. The goalie from Emmental saved 21 shots and was named the third-best player of the game. The Golden Knights ended a streak of five defeats.
Nino Niederreiter lost with the Winnipeg Jets at home against the Montreal Canadiens 1:5, Pius Suter lost with the St. Louis Blues at the Dallas Stars 4:5. Both Swiss remained without a scoring point. Dallas, which has been without the injured Lian Bichsel since November 30, won for the sixth time in a row.
