France's judoka Teddy Riner has won his fifth Olympic gold medal in the mixed team. Just like three years ago in Tokyo, the French team beat the Japanese in the final.
Riner, who had celebrated his third individual Olympic victory in the highest weight category the day before, was the decisive figure in the final. As the score was tied after six fights, a seventh fight was necessary. The weight class was drawn by lot. The draw was made for the 90+ and thus for Riner, who beat Tatsuru Saito by golden score for the second time in this final.
With his five gold medals, Riner is the most successful French Olympian together with retired biathlete Martin Fourcade.
