Julia Simon secures the small globe in Oslo

Vittozzi wins mass start, Simon takes crystal globe

Biathlon. - Lisa Vittozzi won the women's 12.5 km mass start in Oslo. The Italian outpaced Sweden's Hanna Öberg in the final uphill and finished ahead of her and the Czech Tereza Vobornikova.

France's Julia Simon finished in 6th place to win the small crystal globe in the mass start classification. The best Swiss skier was Lena Häcki-Gross in 17th place. She was in third place at one point, but fell back after a total of four misses. Amy Baserga finished in 29th place.

Botn wins the men's event

Johan-Olav Botn won the last race of the season in the men's event. It was the fourth World Cup victory of the season for the Norwegian, who won the individual Olympic gold medal in Antholz in February. Botn distanced second-placed German Philipp Nawrath, who also had no mistakes in the shooting, by 3.7 seconds over 15 km. Third place went to France's Eric Perrot, who had already secured overall victory in the World Cup on Friday. Norway's Sturla Laegreid, who had previously won five times in a row, had to settle for fourth place.

The Swiss did not manage an exploit at the end: Niklas Hartweg, eighth in the pursuit the day before, finished in 20th place with three penalties, while Joscha Burkhalter came 27th.

Klaebo closes dream season with victory

Cross-country skiing. - Norwegian cross-country skiing star Johannes Hösflot Klaebo won the last race of the World Cup season. The 29-year-old won the 20-km mass start in the free technique in Lake Placid and thus secured all the overall rankings. Klaebo thus crowned a perfect season: he had already won all six possible gold medals at the Winter Olympics.

With his success, Klaebo celebrated the 113th individual victory of his World Cup career. He had only won the 10 km race in the classic technique on Friday - just one week after suffering a concussion in the sprint in Drammen. Jason Rüesch was the best Swiss athlete in 34th place.

Kälin finishes sixth

Switzerland's Nadja Kälin put in another good performance at the end of the season in Lake Placid. The two-time Olympic medal winner finished a strong 6th over 20 km and missed the podium by a good five seconds. Nadine Fähndrich finished the last race of her career in 24th place.

Victory went to Jonna Sundling, who came out on top ahead of her Swedish team-mate Linn Svahn and Norwegian Heidi Weng. The last race of the US American Jessie Diggins attracted additional attention: the 34-year-old, who had already secured the overall World Cup ahead of time, finished twelfth after a fall shortly before the finish.
