Kadetten Schaffhausen reach the main round of the European League after a gala performance. Kriens-Luzern, on the other hand, are eliminated.
The starting position for Kadetten before the last game at home against Partizan Belgrade was clear: a win with at least a three-goal difference was enough to progress. The Swiss champions were accordingly focused. Coach Hrvoje Horvat's team was 9:3 ahead after 17 minutes, after which the visitors never got closer than four goals.
In the second half, the Kadetten put on a gala performance and ultimately won 32:19 to finish the balanced Group H behind the Croatians from Nexe Nasice in second place. Before the last round, they were still in last place. The Kadetten's top scorer was Polish set-up man Ariel Pietrasik, who scored nine times. Odinn Rikhardsson scored seven goals and Dimitrij Küttel six.
Kriens-Lucerne lost their last game at home to Porto by a clear 25:44. Coach Thomas Zimmermann's team trailed 3:12 after just over twelve minutes. At the break, the score was 10:23 and their attacking efficiency in the first half was just 23 percent.
After the disastrous first half, advancing was no longer realistic, as Elverum, as expected, did not show any weakness against Fram Reykjavik, who had no points, and won 38:24. As a result, Kriens-Lucerne would have had to win against Porto by at least 13 goals to qualify for the main round. Moritz Oertli and Luca Sigrist scored four goals each for the hosts.
BSV Bern, who had already been eliminated, at least managed to pick up their only point in a 28-28 draw in front of their home crowd against Polish side Ostrovia Ostrow. Nico Eggimann scored the equalizer for BSV in the last second - Levin Wanner was the most successful scorer of the game with seven goals. The team from Bern faced two heavyweights in handball in Group B: Kiel and Montpellier.
