Dominik Kahun, of all people, was celebrated as the scorer of the winning goal in the playoff opener. The German high-class technician, who was no longer wanted in Bern after almost four seasons and moved on to Lausanne in mid-February, scored his first goal for his new club in the 50th minute.
It was a deserved but hard-fought victory for Lausanne, who had the game under control for almost 40 minutes.
Twelve days after the last game, the Vaud team needed no time to get going, taking the lead after just 21 seconds through Damien Riat and increasing it to 2:0 in the 24th minute through top scorer Antti Suomela. A strong Luca Boltshauser in the Langnau goal prevented the visitors from doing worse with 35 saves in the first two periods.
Pascal Berger's goal 38 seconds before the second intermission to make it 1:2 was the harbinger of a spectacular final period. The SCL Tigers equalized through Claudio Cadonau (44'), and when Théo Rochette put Lausanne back in front less than two minutes later, Berger equalized the game with a goal while short-handed.
But the 3:3 didn't last long either. Less than three minutes later, Kahun converted a pass from Andrea Glauser to make it 4:3 for Lausanne, who also emerged victorious in their fifth head-to-head meeting with the Emmental side this season.
