Freestyle skier Kim Gubser narrowly misses out on his first ranking in the top three in the World Cup.
The man from Graubünden came 5th in the Big Air discipline in Beijing. Gubser, who was second best in qualifying, was four points short of third place in the first World Cup victory for Norwegian Ulrik Samnoey. In the women's event, where World Championship bronze medallist Anni Karava from Finland was also at the top for the first time, Anouk Andraska from Appenzell secured 7th place.

Snowboard. - The Swiss alpine snowboarders missed out on the podium at the World Cup opener in Mylin, China. Julie Zogg, who was tackling her last season, finished in 5th place in the parallel giant slalom, as did Dario Caviezel. The competitions were dominated by the riders from Italy. Maurizio Bormolini won the men's race, beating Austria's Benjamin Karl in the final. Aaron March and Mirko Felicetti, two of Bormolini's compatriots, followed in 3rd and 4th place. The women's final was an all-Italian affair. Lucia Dalmasso won the duel against Elisa Caffont.
