The Los Angeles Kings' losing streak in the NHL shows no sign of ending. The team with Switzerland's Kevin Fiala loses 3-2 at home to the St. Louis Blues for the fifth time in a row.
After their recent poor performances, the Californians at least managed to earn a point, as the game was only decided in a penalty shoot-out.
Fiala with 40th goal
It wasn't Fiala's fault that the Kings didn't emerge victorious in the shootout. The player from eastern Switzerland was the third and last shooter for his team and skillfully buried his penalty. However, because his two teammates failed to score and two of the St. Louis Blues' three shooters scored, the extra point went to the visitors.
Prior to that, Fiala recorded his 40th goal of the season in regular time. The MVP of last year's World Championship set up fellow forward Quinton Byfield shortly before the first intermission, who scored to make it 1:1.
Suter wins, Owetschkin scores
Pius Suter went scoreless in the Vancouver Canucks' 3-2 home win against the Anaheim Ducks, after the Zurich forward had scored in each of the two previous games. Thanks to their second win in the last six games, the Canucks moved back into a playoff spot.
At Madison Square Garden, meanwhile, Alexander Ovechkin moved one step closer to Wayne Gretzky's scoring record. The Russian in the service of the Washington Capitals scored the equalizer in a 3-2 overtime win at the New York Rangers to tie the game at 2-2. Owetschkin has 20 games left to catch up with Gretzky's league record of 894 goals.
