Johannes Klaebo sets the course for a record five overall victories at the Tour de Ski. He maintains his lead of around one minute in the pursuit in Toblach.
As a rule, a handicap start leads to a merging of the field, as the individual groups benefit from the slipstream, as in cycling, and catch up with the leaders if they work well together. But Klaebo broke this law. Starting the 20 km race in the classic technique with a lead of just under a minute, he initially pulled away to 1:18 minutes, only to lose another 30 seconds.
In the overall classification, the exceptional skier is now 51 seconds ahead of compatriot Mattis Stenshagen, while the four third-placed skiers, led by American Gus Schumacher, are one minute behind.
The Swiss men's team has shrunk considerably: Janik Riebli decided not to start, as announced in advance, and Valerio Grond did not compete after not feeling in top form in the last few days. Young Nicola Wigger put in a fine performance, finishing in 38th place overall, 3:41 behind the field. Roman Alder and the Näff brothers Noe and Isai are between five and six minutes behind.
