Johannes Klaebo, who grew up and lives in Trondheim, has achieved his most important goal. The 28-year-old won his eleventh World Championship gold, but his first in an individual race over a longer distance. Over the 10 km in both the classic and skating techniques, his competitors were unable to overtake the Norwegian. In the final sprint, the four-time world champion and two-time Olympic sprint champion was naturally unbeatable.

In front of 24,000 enthusiastic fans in the stadium and thousands along the course, a group of a dozen runners crossed the finish line together. Behind Klaebo, Martin Nyenget and Harald Amundsen ensured an all-Norwegian podium, just like two years ago in Planica. The best of the rest was the Italian veteran and sprint silver medalist Federico Pellegrino in fifth place behind Jan Thomas Jenssen.

Baumann's nice series

Jonas Baumann had a good race. The veteran from Graubünden was able to keep up with the leading group until kilometer 13, before he had to break away. "When I see what would have been possible today, I'm not really satisfied," he said. "It was a great race in the classic, but then I realized relatively quickly in the skating section that I didn't have the legs." As the best of the Swiss quartet, he finished in twentieth place, 1:17 minutes behind Klaebo. A small consolation: the 34-year-old from Splügen has now managed at least one top 20 result in six world championships.

Jason Rüesch's race was exactly the opposite. He struggled in the classic manner, but made up more and more places towards the end and made it into the top 30 with 22nd place. Beda Klee did not get up to speed, as he has done all season. Fifth in last year's Tour de Ski, he finished 42nd, Cyril Fähndrich 48th.
