At the Beach Volleyball World Championships, the duo Marco Krattiger/Leo Dillier advance to the round of 16 of the tournament. The duo are the only Swiss team to make it through the first round of the knockout phase in Adelaide.
Krattiger/Dillier secured the first set in commanding fashion with a 21-14, 21-19 win over the Dutch pairing of Stefan Boermans/Yorick De Groot. They were able to pull a few points ahead early on and were never in trouble.
In the second set, they then went head-to-head with the Dutch and were unable to really pull away. In the end, however, they celebrated a two-set victory with 21:19.
"We're just doing wonderfully," said Leo Dillier after the match, before the pair thanked the fans who had traveled with them. Krattiger and Dillier have only been playing together since this year.
In the round of 16, the pair will now face Brazilians Evandro Gonçalves/Arthur Mariano Lanci, who finished 5th at the 2024 Olympic Games. However, the duo only narrowly escaped defeat in the first knockout round, having to fend off three match points against Australia's Bradley Fuller/Ben O'Dea.
