Switzerland is no longer represented in the final phase of the World Championships in Adelaide. Marco Krattiger and Leo Dillier are the last duo from our country to fail in the round of 16.
One day after their coup against the Netherlands' Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot, who are ranked No. 2, Krattiger and Dillier kept their hopes of advancing again alive for one set against the Brazilian pairing of Evandro/Arthur Lanci, the tournament's No. 4, against two opponents they had already beaten once before.
Krattiger and Dillier won their only previous duel against the 35-year-old, two-metre ten Evandro and his six-year-younger partner in three sets at the Elite16 tournament in Gstaad in July.
In their 24:22, 12:21, 13:15 victory on Thursday, another surprise and a second win against the South Americans was only possible at the beginning. After an evenly poised first set, in the course of which the difference was more than one point only once, when Krattiger/Dillier were 10:8 ahead, the two players from Thurgau and Aargau followed this up with a weaker phase. The Brazilians took advantage of this to equalize and take a clear lead of five points in the third round. Krattiger and Dillier were able to reduce the deficit to one point again. However, it was no longer enough to turn the game around and score the next coup.
