After the women, the men of HSC Kreuzlingen are also being voluntarily relegated from the National Handball League A. The Swiss association informs about the resulting consequences.
Kreuzlingen will compete in the second-highest division next year. The withdrawal of the Thurgau team from the National League A means that the play-off between Pfadi Winterthur and RTV Basel is no longer necessary; Kreuzlingen will be the only team to be relegated. The winner of the promotion play-off will replace Kreuzlingen. So far, Stäfa has been confirmed as a participant in this series in best-of-five mode.
The withdrawal of the team from Eastern Switzerland has no effect on the current National League A playoffs. Kreuzlingen will face BSV Bern in the regular quarter-finals. The series begins this Tuesday evening.
Previously, Kreuzlingen had already decided to voluntarily relegate its first women's team from the top division. Due to "changed framework conditions", the "sporting focus" will be redefined. More emphasis will now be placed on grassroots sport and the promotion of young talent.
The Swiss association is taking the withdrawals as an opportunity to analyze the current situation. A newly created committee will "discuss the next steps and intensify the recurring discussion about a possible mode change", writes the SHV.
