The best advertisement for the sport of handball was on offer. The men's final was thrilling. The decision was made in the very last second by a strict seven-meter penalty. Luca Sigrist (19), the youngest player on the match sheet but also Kriens-Lucerne's top scorer, scored in the very last second to make it 33:32.

Wacker Thun were annoyed at losing their second cup final (in six cup wins). The crass underdog had victory in sight - even though Kriens-Luzern almost always led. But the valiant Thun team always found a way back using their strengths, fighting spirit and passion.

Kriens-Lucerne led 12:9 in the 22nd minute, before Thun equalized within 33 seconds (!). A little later, Thun led 13:12 and that remained the only lead for the Bernese Oberland side until the 57th minute. In the final phase, Flavio Wick, the Thun goalkeeper, seemed destined to become the match-winner. Wick had not managed much in the first half. That's why Marc Winkler stood in front of Wacker's goal from the 18th to the 50th minute. But then Wick came back into the game. He pulled four saves out of his sleeve and also saved a seven-meter penalty from Gino Steenaerts.

With the score at 32:31 for Wacker Thun, a ball loss by Jonathan Buck and a failed attempt by Ron Delhees (Sven Näf saved for Kriens-Lucerne) cost the Thun team a possible victory. Eight seconds before the end, Kriens-Lucerne regained possession; the counter-attack led to a desperate save by the Wacker defense and a strict penalty decision.

The cup win should give Kriens-Lucerne a boost for the final weeks of the championship, in which the team from Central Switzerland will be looking to regain the title from Kadetten Schaffhausen. At least the cup final weekend ended with a total triumph for Central Switzerland. In addition to Kriens-Lucerne, Spono Nottwil came out on top in the women's competition. And SG Pilatus, the junior division of Kriens-Lucerne, took the junior title.
