Kriens-Lucerne has put itself in a good position to reach the quarter-finals of the European League. The Central Swiss team won the first leg of the round of 16 against Limoges 36:29 in Sursee.
The surprisingly clear home win for Kriens comes in the middle of a small results crisis with three defeats from four games since the cup final won at the beginning of the month. The young team of coach Zeljko Musa was in control right from the start in the duel with the French top club and experienced its best phase in front of 1,800 spectators shortly after the break, when it pulled away from 17:14 to 21:14.
Central Switzerland's top scorer was the 19-year-old Swiss international Luca Sigrist with eleven goals.
Kriens-Lucerne can therefore afford to lose by six goals in the second leg in France in a week's time. Awaiting them in the quarter-finals is THW Kiel, an absolute top club with stars such as Andreas Wolff and Domagoj Duvnjak.
