Matthias Kyburz finished a very good 5th place in the New York City Marathon in 2:09:55 hours.
The 35-year-old from Fricktal missed the podium by 58 seconds. The eight-time world champion in orienteering, who is now fully committed to the marathon, was competing on the challenging course in New York for the first time. It was only his fourth 42.195 km competition.
Kenyan Benson Kipruto (2:08:09) won the men's race by a wafer-thin margin ahead of his compatriot Alexander Mutiso. Third place went to Albert Korir (2:08:57), also from Kenya.
There was also a triple Kenyan victory in the women's race: Hellen Obiri (2:19:51) triumphed ahead of Sharon Lokedi (2:20:07) and Sheila Chepkirui (2:20:24). The time set by Obiri, who won the New York City Marathon for the second time since 2023, is a course record.
