The Lakers are now only one win away from equalling the club record set in the 2000/01 season and will have the chance to do so on Tuesday when they host third-placed Lausanne. A month ago, they suffered one of their three defeats of the season so far against the Vaud side (0:4).
The duel with the team at the bottom of the table turned out to be hard work for the Lakers. The "Family Day" on Sunday afternoon in the packed arena on Lake Zurich started with a shock for the numerous Lakers fans: Killian Mottet gave the visitors the lead in the 8th minute on the power play.
After goals from Tyler Moy (via penalty), Valentin Hofer and Dominic Lammer, the Lakers were 3:1 ahead by the 34th minute, but had to tremble again in the final phase. After Philip-Michael Devos scored the final goal in the 57th minute, Ajoie were suddenly back in contention. Jonathan Hazen even had the equalizer on his stick in the penultimate minute, but only hit the crossbar.
However, the Lakers were left with one downer: Nicklas Jensen had to leave the ice early again due to injury. The Danish forward, who was only playing his sixth game of the season, did not return after a hard check from Ajoie captain Jannik Fischer in the opening period.
For Ajoie, who are bottom of the table with just five points, it was their tenth defeat in a row - their 15th in 16 games. Meanwhile, the Lakers closed the gap on leaders Davos to six points with their 13th win of the season.
