Langenthal is withdrawing its women's team from the Women's League at the end of the season. According to the club, economic reasons and developments in ice hockey have played a role in this decision.

Over the past three years, SC Langenthal has had to give up "countless players" to the new National League clubs that have entered women's ice hockey, the club regretted in its press release. Some of the resulting gaps in the squad had to be filled at great expense because it was not possible to recruit enough players from the club's own youth ranks in such a short space of time. As sponsorship money is also declining, the decision was made to disband the team.

"This decision is incredibly bitter for us and makes us very thoughtful with regard to Swiss ice hockey and the development of women's ice hockey, because we got into this unfortunate situation through no fault of our own," Walter Ryser, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SC Langenthal AG, is quoted as saying. Continuing the project, which had gradually brought Langenthal's women's team from the third-highest to the highest league, would have been economically irresponsible, says the Chairman of the Board.

In a written statement, Swiss Ice Hockey "deeply regretted" SC Langenthal's decision and stated that there would be no relegation from the Women's League this season. The aim is to have eight teams in the top division next season.
