Within 14 seconds, Servette took a 2-0 lead against Davos in the first three minutes through Simon LeCoultre and Matthew Verboon. A second double strike shortly before the end of the first period made it 4-0 after 20 minutes. And Tim Bozon extinguished all Davos hopes of a further turnaround with the 5:0 just 35 seconds after the first break.
Davos' second defeat of the season did not come like a bolt from the blue. In the last three games against Biel (4:3 after 2:3), Ajoie (4:2 after 1:2) and Langnau (5:3 after 0:1), Davos were already trailing before they were lucky enough to prevail. Against Biel and Ajoie, the turning point only came in the final game.
The Davos defeat had no consequences: Because the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, HCD's first rivals, also lost 0:7 in Zurich, HC Davos still has a 13-point lead in the standings. Of the top 4 in the standings, Lausanne (3rd) also lost 1:6 in Biel and Zug (4th) lost 2:4 in Langnau, moving Servette up to 4th place.
Lugano won the second Ticino derby of the season 5-2 in Ambri, after the first derby had already ended with an away win.
HC Ajoie caused a surprise by also winning their second game of the season away from home against Schlittschuhclub Bern (5:4). Kloten also came from 2-0 down to beat Fribourg-Gottéron 4-2.
