EHC Basel will not play in the National League in the 2026/27 season. The league's license commission has rejected a corresponding application from the club.

According to the Swiss League club, it currently lacks the financial basis for promotion to Switzerland's top division. EHC Basel accepts the decision and emphasizes that it is working on "being in a better position for the next application".
EHC Basel last played in the National League in 2008 and then failed to qualify for the league against EHC Biel. Bankruptcy followed in 2014 and a new start at amateur level. In 2022, they were promoted to the Swiss League, where they currently occupy 7th place.
