The four-time NBA champion of the Los Angeles Lakers achieved this feat by scoring in Wednesday night's home game against the New Orleans Pelicans, two years after becoming the NBA record holder for points scored ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The basketball giant, who became Olympic champion for the third time in Paris last summer and is in his 22nd season in the NBA, started the game with 49,999 points. After 3:26 minutes of playing time, he hit a three-pointer after a pass from Luka Doncic to pass the symbolic 50,000 mark.

Apart from James, only Abdul-Jabbar (44,149) and Karl Malone (41,689) had passed the 40,000-point mark in history. Kobe Bryant (39,283) and Michael Jordan (38,279) follow in the rankings.
