The Scuderia had often been criticized for strategic misconduct in the recent past. But now it was the technicians in red who made a winning tactical move. In contrast to their direct competitors, they decided to call Leclerc and Sainz, who finished fourth on his 30th birthday, into the pits only once to change tires.

It was a decision that proved to be spot on, earning Leclerc his second Grand Prix victory of the season after the one in Monaco and giving the local fans an unforgettable day.

It took some courage, but with the tactics based on a stopover, they saw Ferrari as the only way to leave the favored drivers in the orange cars behind. Leclerc crossed the finish line 2.6 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri. Norris, who started from pole position, lost 6.1 seconds in third place.

Despite missing out on the (double) victory, McLaren continued to make up ground on Red Bull in the team standings. The gap to the leading team narrowed by 22 to 8 points. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, who continue to lead the drivers' championship standings, finished sixth and eighth respectively in the blue cars.

Once again, the Sauber drivers only had supporting roles. Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu finished the race one lap down in sixteenth and eighteenth place respectively.
