Lena Häcki-Gross finishes fourth in Lenzerheide, missing out on Switzerland's first medal at the biathlon world championships by 1.4 seconds. France's Justine Braisaz-Bouchet secured gold.
Häcki-Gross has not been able to get up to speed as desired so far this winter. Her best result was a 9th place in the sprint in Kontiolahti. In the most important competition of the season so far, the 29-year-old from Obwalden put on a great performance, but was just not rewarded.
Although the conditions were more than difficult for Häcki-Gross in prone shooting and she had to take a lot of time before the first shot, she reacted correctly and remained error-free. She managed the same in the standing position. In the end, Häcki-Gross was 1.4 seconds short of bronze and 1.6 seconds short of silver. It would have been Switzerland's first ever medal at the Biathlon World Championships. Häcki-Gross told Swiss television that she had approached the race a little too quickly. Nevertheless, she was more than proud of her performance.
France's Justine Braisaz-Bouchet won gold, although she missed one shot. She was 11.4 seconds faster than Häcki-Gross. Silver and bronze went to Franziska Preuss from Germany and Suvi Minkkinen from Finland.
