One day after parting ways with Sergio Perez, the Red Bull Formula 1 team has announced his successor. As expected, it is Liam Lawson, who will be world champion Max Verstappen's team-mate in 2025.
The 22-year-old New Zealander will contest his first world championship season as a regular driver with Red Bull. This year, he has contested the last six Grand Prix weekends with Team Visa in place of Daniel Ricciardo, who has been released. In the previous year, he had already stood in for the Australian for five races with Red Bull's partner team after the latter had broken his wrist.
In eleven Grands Prix starts, Lawson finished in the championship points three times (ninth on each occasion). Frenchman Isack Hadjar is being discussed as his successor at Team Visa. The 20-year-old finished 2nd overall in this year's Formula 2 junior series behind future Sauber driver Gabriel Bortoleto.
