Wout van Aert himself announced that he has extended his contract, which would have expired in 2026, "for life". "I feel at home in this team. It's unique and I've flourished here for five years. That's why I've decided to stay here forever and that makes me really happy," said the 30-year-old Fleming in a media release. Wout van Aert plans to continue working for Visma after his career.

Team boss Richard Plugge did not give any details about the deal, but praised the versatility of his star. "Wout (van Aert) is a fantastic rider with a huge track record. He is an all-rounder: a sprinter, a classics specialist, a time trial specialist - and on a good day he can also win a mountain stage, as he did in his famous victory on Mont Ventoux in the Tour de France."

Wout van Aert has won nine stages of the Tour de France so far. The Visma team also includes the Dane Jonas Vingegaard, winner of the 2022 and 2023 Tour de France.
