The Tampa Bay Lightning lose the duel between two playoff contenders in the NHL. The team with Janis Moser was beaten by the Toronto Maple Leafs 3:4 after overtime.
It was the "top fight" in the Atlantic Division. With a win in regulation time, the Lightning could have drawn level with the Maple Leafs on points. But it was not to be again. The team from Florida also lost out in the fourth meeting with the Canadiens in this regular season.
The Maple Leafs got off to a lightning start. They were already 2:0 ahead after three and a half minutes. At the start of the third period, the Dane Oliver Bjorkstrand, who had joined the Lightning from the Seattle Kraken at the start of the season, equalized for the hosts at 2:2 in overtime. The American Matthew Knies immediately gave the Maple Leafs the lead again, also on the power play, and the Swede Victor Hedman, also on the power play, tied the game again.
Knies was again responsible for the decision. The winger scored his third goal of the evening three minutes into overtime.
