The 27-year-old from Zurich explains her decision to retire with a shoulder injury, which prevents her from training at the required level, and her current life situation. The decision was not easy for her.

"Swimming is still very close to my heart and always will be. But given the circumstances, I think it was the right decision. I have many exciting projects and goals that I want to pursue outside of the water and in which I will invest my energy and time," the breaststroke specialist was quoted as saying in a press release from Swiss Aquatics. She will also remain involved in the sport of swimming. She will continue to be involved in her role as an athlete representative.

Mamié celebrated her greatest success three years ago when she became European champion in the 200 m breaststroke in Rome. The year before, she won the silver medal over the same distance at the continental championships in Budapest. She won two medals at last year's European Championships in Belgrade, namely silver in the 100 m and bronze in the 200 m breaststroke. Mamié also represented Switzerland at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and Paris, where she was twice a semi-finalist.

At national level, Mamié holds the best mark over all distances in her preferred style on the long course and in the short pool.
