The St. Gallen long-distance runner Dominic Lobalu stormed to second place in the Barcelona half marathon in 59:26 minutes behind the Ethiopian winner Hagos Gebrhiwet (58:05). This is the third-best performance by a European over the half marathon distance. Only the Swedish European record holder Andreas Almgren (58:41), his predecessor Julien Wanders (59:12) and Lobalu himself (58:12) had ever been faster.
