The 24-year-old from Vaud, who competes for Lausanne Aquatique, finished in 26.72 seconds, eight hundredths slower than the previous record set by Martin Schweizer in 2014. Allegrini had already secured the Swiss record in the 50 m pool at the World University Games in July.

Second-placed Gian-Luca Gartmann from the organizing SC Uster equalled the previous record time in 26.80 seconds. Like Allegrini, he also qualified for the European Short Course Championships from December 2 to 7 in Lublin, Poland.

Paul Niederberger was also fast on Saturday. The 21-year-old from Lausanne Aquatique not only beat the European Championship limit in the 1500 m crawl race in 14:57.78 minutes, but also improved the Swiss record in the 800 m crawl. His time of 7:54.92 minutes means an improvement of almost one second on Antonio Djakovic's previous record (7:55.86).
