The former Swiss dressage rider and Olympic participant Marcela Krinke Susmelj died on July 17 at the age of 58 as a result of Alzheimer's disease.

This was announced by the Swiss Equestrian Federation. Marcela Krinke Susmelj was one of the most successful Swiss dressage riders of all time. She took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was Swiss dressage champion in 2009 and 2010 with Corinth and in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017 with smeyers Molberg.

When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2019 at the age of just 54, Krinke Susmelj gave up her squad membership and further competition starts and from then on lived in seclusion with her husband Ivan Susmelj, who also recently passed away.
