Marlen Reusser starts the Giro d'Italia in perfect style. The rider from Bern wins the first stage, a 14.2-kilometer time trial in Bergamo, in superior style.

With her clear victory, Reusser lived up to her role as favorite in the battle against the clock on flat terrain. She distanced her first pursuer, Lotte Kopecky, by 12 seconds. Last year, the Belgian, then still a team-mate of Reusser, finished second overall in the Giro behind Elisa Longo Borghini. The Italian finished third in the time trial, 16 seconds behind.
With her victory, Reusser took the first step towards her next big goal. After winning the Tour de Suisse, she is also aiming for overall victory in the eight-stage Tour of Italy.
Elena Hartmann was the second-best Swiss rider in the time trial in 12th place, 44 seconds slower than her compatriot.
