Orienteer Matthias Kyburz also impresses on the road surface of the marathon course

One year after making his marathon debut in Paris and qualifying for the Olympics, Matthias Kyburz once again impresses over the 42.195 km in Seville. The man from Fricktal finishes in fourth place after 2:06:40 hours.
The eight-time orienteering world champion thus outpaced his coach Viktor Röthlin (2:07:23) and became the second-fastest Swiss marathon runner behind record holder Tadesse Abraham (2:04:40). However, it must be mentioned that Röthlin was not yet able to make use of the latest innovations in shoe material.
Kyburz lowered his personal best by almost a minute in his third marathon. One month after his best half marathon time in Seville (1:01:46) and the fulfillment of the European Road Running Championships limit, the 35-year-old missed the ambitious World Championships limit (2:06:30) for Tokyo by just 14 seconds.
However, last year's Olympic 30th place finisher is not planning on the major athletics event in mid-September anyway. His next focus will be on the World Orienteering Championships in Finland at the beginning of July, where he will be aiming for his ninth and probably last World Championship title before returning to the Olympic marathon distance.
