The Northern Irishman is closing in on Colin Montgomerie's record. Only Scotland's golf legend has been more successful than the 36-year-old world number two with eight overall victories. England's Matt Fitzpatrick secured victory in a play-off against McIlroy at the ten million US dollar event.

Second place at the tournament at Jumeirah Golf Estates was enough for McIlroy to secure the Harry Vardon Trophy for first place in the Race to Dubai once again after 2012, 2014, 2015, 2022, 2023 and 2024. The Northern Irishman received a bonus of two million US dollars for winning the ranking.

The best 52 golfers of the season qualified for the final in the United Arab Emirates.
