Pius Suter achieves a special success in the NHL. The Zurich native wins 5-2 with the St. Louis Blues at his former employer in Vancouver.
Suter had played for the Canucks for two years prior to his transfer this season. The transfer came just after the former ZSC Lions forward's best, most productive time in the NHL. He had 25 goals and 21 assists in the last regular season.
Suter scored his first goal for the Blues on Saturday in a 4-2 win at the Calgary Flames. Now, in his third serious game with St. Louis, he also had his first assist. He was one of the assistants on Jimmy Snuggerud's 1-0 goal just under nine minutes into the game. The young American, who was only playing his tenth game in the world's best league, scored twice for the first time. The Blues took a decisive 4-2 lead after two periods on their way to their second win in the third game.
Meier and Fiala score - Hischier with an assist
The New Jersey Devils have the same record after three games in the still young season. Timo Meier and Nico Hischier also had a hand in the 3-2 win at the Columbus Blues Jackets with one goal each. The Appenzell native opened the scoring on the power play with his second goal of the current championship four minutes before the first intermission siren. With 57 seconds left on the clock, the man from Valais provided the pass for Dawson Mercer's double into the empty net.
Kevin Fiala scored, also for the second time this season. Nevertheless, the St. Gallen native suffered his third defeat in the fourth game with the Los Angeles Kings. The team from California was beaten 3:4 on penalties by the Minnesota Wild. The Kings at least earned a point for their comeback. They had made up the 3-0 deficit after the first period in the third. Fiala initiated the strong final phase in regulation time with the goal to make it 1:3.
