The Swiss players continue to collect scoring points ahead of the playoffs starting this weekend. Meanwhile, the last two playoff spots have been awarded in the West.
Timo Meier scored three and Nico Hischier two points for the New Jersey Devils. Meier opened the scoring with his 26th goal of the season. He and captain Hischier then contributed two assists each. In overtime, Brian Dumoulin, who was traded from the Anaheim Ducks to New Jersey shortly before the trade deadline, scored his first goal for the Devils to make it 5-4. New Jersey, which will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the playoffs, ended a streak of three straight losses.
For Janis Moser and the Tampa Bay Lightning, the game against the Florida Panthers was the dress rehearsal for the playoffs, in which the two teams will meet again in the first round. In the "Battle of Florida", the home team from Tampa prevailed 5:1, with Moser scoring for the first time in eight games with his assist on the first goal.
The Los Angeles Kings, who will first play against the Edmonton Oilers in the playoffs, also underlined their good form with a 6-5 win against the Seattle Kraken. Kevin Fiala, who had scored seven goals in the previous six games, did not score this time but contributed two assists.
The Minnesota Wild and the St. Louis Blues were the last two teams in the West to secure a place in the play-offs. Both franchises missed out on the postseason last year, the Blues even in the last two seasons. St. Louis will face qualifying winner Winnipeg with Nino Niederreiter, while Minnesota will take on the Vegas Golden Knights.
In the East, the Columbus Blue Jackets kept their playoff chances alive with a 3-0 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. They now have to hope that the Montreal Canadiens lose and win their final game against the New York Islanders.
