Australian rider Michael Matthews will not be at the start of the Tour de France. The reason is signs of a pulmonary embolism that the 34-year-old showed during altitude training.
This was announced by his team Jayco-AlUla on Friday.
Accordingly, Matthews is suspending all physical activities "until further notice", including participation in the Tour of France (July 5 to 27), in which he has won four stages so far.
