The game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Buffalo Sabres on the west coast of Florida seesawed back and forth. After the home team let a lead slip away and tied the score midway through the final period, the Lightning fell behind again five minutes before the end. Darren Raddysh saved his team with his goal 26 seconds before the third siren to send the game into overtime.

Janis Moser had his stick in the game at the decisive moment. The 25-year-old from Biel won the puck behind his own goal and played the puck to Nikita Kutscherow. The latter launched Jake Guentzel, who kept his cool in front of goal and secured victory for the home team. With their fourth win in a row, the Lightning cemented their place at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Meanwhile, the New Jersey Devils are gradually losing sight of the play-off places after their fourth defeat in the last five games. The team with Swiss players Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Jonas Siegenthaler lost 3-0 to the in-form Columbus Blue Jackets in front of a home crowd in what was actually a balanced game, with all the goals coming in the final period. The Devils are already nine points behind the playoff places. A win against the New York Islanders before the Olympic break would be hugely important.
