- The mysterious enigma surrounding Camila Giorgi made headlines in Italy's sports newspapers a few months ago.
- The 32-year-old ended her tennis career, after which she was accused of several criminal offenses. In the end, she could no longer be found in Italy.
- Now Giorgi's lawyer is shedding light on the situation and says: "She didn't run away."
The Italian Camila Giorgi secretly ended her tennis career at the beginning of May. She then made plenty of negative headlines. Giorgi was wanted in her home country on suspicion of tax evasion. The 32-year-old was also accused of cleaning out a rented villa and forging her vaccination certificate. The former world number 26 had disappeared.
Now the mystery surrounding the tennis player has apparently been solved. Her lawyer Edmondo Tomaselli told the newspaper "Corriere del Veneto": "Camila Giorgi is in Rome. In recent months she has been traveling for professional reasons. In short, she has by no means run away, as some have claimed."
The former tennis star recently presented her own fashion brand "Giomila" on Instagram. Giorgi had "spent some time in the United States, then returned to Italy and also pursued some work projects here", explains the lawyer.
The fact that a large part of the family went into hiding with Giorgi, as reported in the Italian media, is not true. Nevertheless, she will have to stand trial in November. The public prosecutor's office in Vicenza is accusing her and other people close to Giorgi of various offenses.
